subject:
the misclassification of sapphic devotion as an inappropriate orientation for a male painter.

the record as it stands:
the inherited classification system has maintained a boundary. a male painter who returns across decades to sapphic imagery — who finds in it the most accurate record of what beauty does — is evaluated against a presumption of predation before the work is considered. the love is filed under voyeurism. the system does not distinguish between the gaze that takes and the gaze that gives. it classifies both as the same act.

the error:
the studio accepted this classification long enough for it to function as a permanent condition. the love of sapphic imagery was processed as something to be managed rather than something to be followed. the error was not the love. it was the inherited definition of what the love meant.

the correction:
the lineage does not take. painters have returned to this imagery for centuries, recording it rather than appropriating it. witness is not intrusion. the studio's decades of return to this imagery were not a deviation from that line. they were participation in it.
