archival record:
wide-bodied ceramic urn on terracotta pedestal base. warm sand ground. vessel body carries a painted pastoral scene: two reclining female nudes in landscape. the figures are boucher's — idyllic, unguarded, at leisure in an open ground. the arrangement does not acknowledge them. large pink roses as primary figure, lower left and right. lavender and white iris at center. pink cosmos or anemone at crown, with trailing vine. purple foxglove ascending left of center. blue bell-form clusters. red and crimson blooms, center mass. orange accent flowers. blue cornflower detail. deep burgundy and maroon throughout. white and pale lavender clematis-type form. raspberry and blackberry cluster hanging lower left. dense green and teal foliage. atmospheric blue ground with visible brushwork. white shelf at base.

chromatic inventory: atmospheric blue ground — not flat, not neutral, carrying light. warm vessel held against it without recession. full chromatic range across the arrangement: crimson, orange, pink, lavender, white, burgundy, blue. no passage of rest. the boucher figures occupy a small, contained zone of warm tonal painting. everything above them refuses that logic entirely. the contrast is structural. the sunbathers are on the vessel.

a rococo daydream but the arrangement has no interest in dreaming.
