The Red Studio by Henri Matisse, MOMA, New York
In November 2016 I was able to see this painting for the first time. It has long been one of my favorites, and the joy I felt while standing in front of it exceeded expectations. I recommend anyone visiting New York to take the time to stop by and see it at MOMA. There are many great works by Matisse in the same room, as well as masterpieces from Picasso and Kirchner in neighboring rooms.
While watching Peggy Guggenheim: Art Addict, they showed a black and white video clip of two people, standing in front of this very image. The transcendental aspect of art is always inspiring to me. Different people, in entirely different worlds, can pause to enjoy the same thing.
